Team Spirit vs Chimera Esports at DreamLeague Season 25

DreamLeague Season 25 is in its final few matches with Team Spirit taking on Chimera Esports in the Lower Bracket semifinals. Both teams were in Group B and were the top two teams in that group. They also faced each other in the second group stage, and are no strangers to each other’s drafts and playstyle.

CHIMERA’s first match in this tournament was against Team Spirit. The inaugural match resulted in a 0-2 loss to Team Spirit, partly because they could not control Team Spirit’s core players. Both Yatoro and Larl had relatively free farm and early XP and it allowed them to secure a very strong mid-game. 

Despite playing rather greedy heroes in terms of XP and GPM, Team Spirit was able to carve out space for the cores to flourish. It was an out-draft partly because the Chimera playstyle did not really complement their draft. 

Fortunately, for Chimera fans, that was the only 0-2 loss for the team in the group stage. They had multiple 1-1 draws and three wins including victories over Team Liquid, Yakult Brothers and BOOM esports. This catapulted them to the second place in the group stage, just behind Team Spirit. For context, Team Spirit had five 2-0 victories and two draws – a total of twelve game victories.

Chimera bounced back in the second group stage, partly because they fixed their draft-gameplay synergy. The first game went Team Spirit’s way, but Chimera won the next two to manage their comeback. A key component in their advantage was that Yatorosiply did not receive the space to farma nd get crucial items as compared to the other cores on the opposite team. Neither his lifestealer in Game 2, nor his TerrorBlade in Game 3 were potent enough to pose a significant threat to Chimera Esports.

The playoffs match will be the third series the two teams will face against each other. This will be an interesting matchup because there’s more at stake during this series.

The loser faces elimination, and the familiarity of both the teams with each other’s playstyle makes this for an interesting series, right from the draft to the throne crashing.

The DreamLeague Season 25 is a million dollar Dota 2 tournament and it featured some of the biggest organizations in participation. The tournament kicked off on February 16 and has featured two group stages, where the teams competed against each other in a round-robin format. Only four teams remain in the tournament: Team Spirit, Chimera Esports, PARIVISION and Tundra Esports.
