Lenoir Community College students will soon have access to one of North Carolina’s pioneering artificial intelligence degree programs through a new partnership with Wayne Community College.
The agreement allows LCC students to complete their first-year general education coursework at Lenoir Community College before enrolling in Wayne Community College’s Artificial Intelligence program online. Upon completion, students will earn an Associate in Applied Science – Artificial Intelligence Engineer degree through WCC.
LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt and WCC President Dr. Patty Pfeiffer recently formalized the partnership through an Instructional Service Agreement (ISA), expanding educational opportunities for students interested in one of the nation’s fastest-growing technology fields.
Pfeiffer said the partnership will help the region’s economic development. “We all use artificial intelligence every day,” she said. “We know the importance of the industry and the need to educate people within it, so we are honored to partner with LCC.”
Hunt acknowledged the strong partnership between WCC and LCC, which is further strengthened by the new agreement. “This is a great opportunity for us,” he said. “It delivers resources responsibly across our community college system. It is another avenue to make AI accessible to our students, as well as WCC’s students.”
