Born and raised in Mexico, Luis Lagos found a home at Midwestern State University for the past four years.
He earned his bachelor of science degree from the McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering in December 2024.
Lagos majored in biology and minored in chemistry. His graduation was just one more step toward his goals. Next, he plans to get into medical school or pursue a master’s degree.
Lagos also participated in the MSU Texas Esports & Gaming Club. That’s how Esports Director Zach Zoet got to know him.
“Through this time, I’ve known him most closely as ‘Zero,’ his gaming handle,” Zoet said. “Zero will be sorely missed within our League of Legends team and broader esports community. He was a consummate teammate and supporter of his roster mates. Any time somebody needed him to rotate to a play to save a teammate or give up his own game state in order to advance their own, Zero unquestioningly always committed to showing up for his teammates.”
Zoet and others with esports noticed that went beyond gameplay.
“This selfless nature also extended to his relationships with his teammates and friends,” Zoet said. “The world of esports and MSU would be better if we all took a page from Zero’s book and looked to support others around us as readily as he does. We know he will continue to elevate all spaces he finds himself a part of moving forward, and we’ll always root for him!”
One of the things Lagos said he enjoyed the most at MSU Texas was meeting new people, working together for a common goal and getting to know the traditions on campus. His favorite spots on campus were the Clark Student Center and the labs at Bolin Science Hall.
In the classroom, Lagos learned a lot in zoology, comparative anatomy and bacteriology. Associate Professor of Biology Roy Vogtsberger and Chemistry Department Chair Chris Hansen were among his favorite professors.
Lagos said he believes MSU is a pretty good university with a good level of education.
“As for esports, if that’s what you like, go for it,” he said.
