Fond du Lac students shine at Ishamon Harris VEX Robotics event

On Jan. 24, the Fond du Lac community gathered at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreation Center for the 12th annual Ishamon Harris Memorial VEX Robotics Tournament.

The event hosted 53 middle and high school teams from across Wisconsin for a blended VEX V5 Robotics Competition focused on innovation, teamwork and hands-on STEM learning.

Throughout the day, students designed, built and programmed robots to complete complex engineering challenges, demonstrating problem-solving skills, resilience and sportsmanship.

Local teams performed exceptionally well. The Fond du Lac Area Robotics Team, 2083Z Z-Axis, earned the Excellence Award, the highest honor in VEX Robotics. First place in the Robot Skills Challenge was earned by Team 5509E VHS Excelsior! from the Valley Home Schoolers in Appleton.

This tournament would not be possible without the continued generosity of Jeff and Carmen Wicks and the support of Fondy Heat Robotics, whose dedication helps sustain meaningful STEM opportunities for youth in our community. Volunteers, mentors and judges also played a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for students of all experience levels.

The Ishamon Harris Memorial VEX Robotics Tournament highlights what happens when students are supported and encouraged to explore their creativity. These teams aren’t just building robots — they’re building confidence, teamwork and a genuine excitement for learning.

Events like this strengthen our community while inspiring the next generation of innovators.
