Central Penn’s Rocket League team captured their second division title with a thrilling overtime win against Bluffton in the Playfly Division finals.
ENOLA, Pa. — Central Penn College’s Esports Rocket League team captured their second division championship title in program history with a dramatic overtime victory against Bluffton University (Ohio) in the Playfly Division finals on Tuesday.
The championship team, consisting of Logan Kibler, Sam Royer and Connor Staub, completed an impressive 7-1 season to claim the title. The victory was especially significant as their only regular season loss came against the same Bluffton team they defeated in the finals.
“This group has poured so much time and energy into the program,” said Coach Donnie Lewis. “It’s amazing to see it all come together in a moment like this. They earned it.”
The team’s success reflects the growing importance of esports in collegiate athletics. Under the guidance of coaches Donnie Lewis and Jon Saurman, the players demonstrated exceptional skill development throughout the spring season, culminating in their championship performance.
Athletic Director Kasey Hicks expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing the broader significance for the institution. “I’m proud of our student-athletes and our coaching staff. Their commitment to the program and each other is what makes this championship so special. This victory shows that hard work and dedication on any level can pay off in big ways.”
The championship adds to Central Penn College’s growing esports program history, marking their second division title since establishing the program. Rocket League, a video game that combines elements of soccer and vehicular action, has become one of the most popular competitive esports titles globally.
