ANGOLA, Ind. (WPTA) – A bill at the Indiana Statehouse seeks to make Indiana a leader in the esports industry.
House Bill 1604, which passed through the committee on Thursday, requires the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) to conduct a study on methods and strategies to make Indiana a leader in the industry.
Jeremy Goossens, director of esports at Trine University, says the bill is a perfect fit for Indiana.
“It’s about pushing initiatives that will give space to E-sports,” Goossens said. “Indiana is in the middle of the Midwest, which is a region with a lot of E-sports, so being able to host tournaments, being able to push different project initiatives by making it easier on organizations, can be a real plus.”
Recent studies say the E-sports industry is currently valued at $2.8 billion worldwide and is projected to be worth 5 times that amount within the next 10 years.
