Baylor University has appointed Adam Stanley as its first esports director to lead their competitive gaming program.
WACO, Texas — Baylor University has taken a significant step in expanding its collegiate esports program with the hiring of Adam Stanley as the Bears’ first esports director and coach.
Stanley joins Baylor after turning Brewton-Parker College into a national esports powerhouse, leading teams to nine conference championships.
Baylor will further solidify its role in the esports landscape by hosting the Texas Scholastic Esports Federation’s Undisputed State Championships from May 1-3 at the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center. The event is expected to draw over 1,500 high school competitors from across the state.
Building on this momentum, Stanley will establish a University-sponsored competitive esports team that will compete in national tournaments, recruit student-athletes, and offer scholarships for top talent.
“I’m confident that Baylor Esports will soon serve as a tangible example of Baylor’s Christian stewardship and Kingdom purposes in action,” Stanley said. “This program will be a catalyst for good, both on and off our beautiful campus.”
During his tenure at Brewton-Parker, Stanley’s teams secured numerous titles, including the 2022-23 Rocket League Championship of the Georgia Esports League and the 2023-24 Valorant Championship of the Southeastern Esports League. He also served as associate vice president of student development and sits on the board of directors for the National Association of Collegiate Esports.
In addition to developing Baylor Esports, Stanley will support the existing OSO Esports club team and collaborate with Baylor’s Division of Marketing and Communications, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and academic units such as the School of Engineering and Computer Science to align with the university’s goals.
“Adam is the perfect fit to build and lead Baylor Esports as he deeply understands our Christian mission to develop students into worldwide leaders and our institutional desire to compete at the highest levels,” said Jason Cook, vice president for marketing and communications and chief marketing officer. “He is extremely well-respected in national esports circles and will immediately put Baylor on the collegiate esports map.”
