MIDLAND, Mich. (WNEM) – Six Northwood University esports teams are heading to Texas to compete in the Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup (CECC).
This is the largest showing for Northwood at the CECC.
The six teams will compete in Overwatch, Rocket League, Valorant, Smash Bros., and Counter-Strike.

“Having six teams qualify to compete at CECC illustrates just how deep our talent pool is,” said Northwood esports Coach Jacob R. Jacob. “This many teams qualifying for CECC is a massive achievement — but what makes us even prouder is how our players compete with heart, discipline, and true Northwood pride. They don’t just play the game — they represent our university at the highest level every step of the way.”
The CECC 2025 is hosting 300 teams comprising of over 1,500 of the nation’s top collegiate esports athletes from 185 schools. Forty students from Northwood esports will be included, marking it the largest group the program has ever sent to a single tournament.
Their inclusion in the CECC 2025 comes on the heels of Northwood’s spring playoff run, which saw Northwood esports earn four new championships:
- Spring 25 Playfly Champion, Spring 25 NECC Division 1 Champion – Rocket League
- Spring 25 Playfly Champion, Spring 25 NECC Division 1 Champion – Valorant
