Beginning this fall, every Ohio State University student will be asked to use artificial intelligence in the classrooms.The effort for students to use AI more in their studies comes as part of the university’s AI Fluency Initiative, which is designed to embed AI into the undergraduate curriculum.The program will prioritize Ohio State’s incoming freshmen class.Ohio State aims to have each 2029 graduate fluent in the use of AI in their respective educational fields.“Through AI Fluency, Ohio State students will be ‘bilingual’ — fluent in both their major field of study and the application of AI in that area,” Ravi V. Bellamkonda, executive vice president and provost, said.Students at Ohio State will also be required to take an AI Skills seminar and the university will implement workshops into existing class framework.The university emphasized that the focus on AI is not meant to allow students to use AI to claim AI-generated content as their own work for assignments.At least six university offices will be tasked with issuing guidance for helping students maintain academic integrity while using AI.
