With multiple appearances made throughout the school year and a slowly rising community, FIU GameHERS is looking to take eSports by storm.
“We are a chapter of FIU Esports dedicated to supporting and uplifting women and marginalized genders in gaming,” said Mariah S. Harris, President of GameHERS. “Our purpose is to give a voice, platform, and a safe community for underrepresented gamers.”
GameHERS has hosted, helped host and attended multiple events like the Esports Pit Takeover and the Panther Games Expo.
“FIU GameHERS* aims to create a supportive environment where female gamers can connect, learn, and thrive through organized events and community at Florida International University,” said Ariana Rodriguez, Vice President of GameHERS.
To support their purpose, they’ve had events where students were able to create friendship bracelets, write love letters, and snap cute Polaroid pictures. Students were also handed stickers to decorate, and seats were placed within proximity to promote social interactions.

Students were able to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere where they could hang out and craft with their friends and loved ones. At other events, Just Dance was played, free pizza and candy were handed out, and giveaways including stuffed animals were given out.
FIU GameHERS is also hosting an event on April 10th called Cozy Game Night. Students are invited to come in their pj’s, enjoy snacks and indulge in cozy gaming. For more information, check out their Instagram page here.

“Students should expect to see a variety of events for the upcoming semesters. We are going to incorporate workshops such as resume building and panels on how to make gaming a safe space for everyone. We will also continue our laid-back, community building events both in person and online,” said Mariah S. Harris.
“I highly encourage women and marginalized genders majoring or pursuing a career in tech or gaming. Even if neither applies, everyone is welcome to our events such as Cozy Game Night.”
By attending and hosting multiple events throughout the school year and info sessions dating back to Oct. 31, 2024, GameHERS is steadily making its name known. Casual games and other Panthers that are in the gaming community are encouraged to see what GameHERS offers. To learn more, visit their Instagram page or Discord.
