HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Over the weekend, Farrington High School hosted top gaming students from the University of Utah’s Asia Campus (UAC), at the Honolulu International Esports Tournament.
On Saturday, Mar. 29, UAC students competed in non-violent computer game platforms against gamers from Farrington High School and other schools across Oahu.
The tournament aimed to not only bridge a relationship between Hawaii and South Korea through esports, but also highlighted the esport gateway to tech-related careers.
Farrington’s esports program has gained recognition and now sparked interest from companies like Servco, offering students potential IT internships and training.
UAC’s partnership with Farrington has accelerated the area’s esports program and provided students with opportunities to learn about game development, animation, and interactive media careers.
In total, the inaugural event featured about 150 competitors from across the state, including nine students from the University of Utah’s Asia Campus in South Korea
The top eight gamers took home winnings from prize pool worth several thousands of dollars.
