A pair of local high school Esports Team recently had one of its best performances during regionals at the University of Cincinnati on Sunday.

The Rocket League teams representing Beavercreek and Fairborn squared off in the Best of 7 finals, with Beavercreek prevailing 4-3. The two sides continually flipped wins, with Beavercreek winning all odd number matches and Fairborn tying the score after each even number match.

Both teams advance to the state tournament.

Beavercreek, which was the top-seed, had beaten Elder by a 3-2 score in the Best-of-5 semifinals. Fairborn as the 3-seed defeated Centerville 3-1 in the quarterfinals and swept St. Xavier in the semifinals.

The OHSA premier state finals will take place beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

In other games, Beavercreek had its Super Smash Bros: Ultimate team beat Princeton 2-0 in the finals to advance to state, and its Valorant squad bow out in the quarterfinals.

Fairborn’s Overwatch team made it to the quarterfinals of its competition.

Esports began being sponsored by the Ohio High School Athletic Association in 2023.

Brown sets Greeneview record

Clay Brown of Greeneview Middle School recently set a new track and field school record.

Competing in the long jump at the Ohio Heritage Conference’s season preview event at Northeastern, Brown leapt a distance of 18-feet, and one-half inch on his fourth and fnal attempt.

Brown won the event with his record leap, which was almost a full foot longer than his three attempts to that point in the competition, as well as better than 4 1/2 inches farther than his previous best performance.

Jacob Lide had two RBI for the Indians.

Fairborn 4, West Carrollton 2

Clayton Phillips singled home the winning runs in the third inning for Fairborn.

Ayden Davis got nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 inning on the mound.

Greeneview 14, Southeastern 4

Nick Hassid’s four-hit day, scoring all four times, led the Rams to the five-inning win.

Tyler Moore hit a triple and scored two runs.

Troy 10, Xenia 0

Cameron Salyers had the only hit of the game for Xenia.

Boys Lacrosse

Beavercreek 12, Lebanon 11

A five-goal game by Andrew LeBlanc helped lead Beavercreek to the win.

Sawyer Howell made five saves in net.

Xenia 8, Northmont 7

The win was the first in overtime in program history for Xenia.

The Bucs trailed by three goals in the second before forcing the extra period.

Abigail Hebrank struck out eight hitters in four relief innings.

Chasidy Stewart had the only RBI for Bellbrook.

Katelyn Reed had the only hit of the game for Cedarville.

Joscelyn Evans had six strikeouts in the circle.

Southeastrn 6, Greeneview 1

The Rams scored on a Madison Leslie RBI double three batters into the game, but couldn’t get another run home after.

Leslie went the distance in the circle and allowed six hits with three strikeouts.

Troy 15, Xenia 0

Micah Hardin’s single in the second inning was Xenia’s only hit.

Xenia issued 16 walks from the circle.

Zach Creeden struck out nine in six innings to get the win.

The Indians held off a five-run rally in the seventh and prevented the potential tying run from reaching base.

Cayden Bailey had a six-RBI day and stole two bases for Fairborn.

Dillon Efaw got seven strikeouts in the complete game.

Greeneview 21, Southeastern 0

Moore went 4-for-5 and led a 16-hit day for Greeneview, all singles in the win.

Five different players had multiple RBI, led by three both by Lyriq Abling and Andy Burkett.

Legacy Christian 16, Yellow Springs 0

Jacob Thompson did his best Ohtani impression in the win.

A 4-for-4 day with five RBI at the plate was backed up by striking out nine batters in his five innings on the mound.

Boys Lacrosse

Fenwick 16, Carroll 4

Lyric Hamilton got 11 saves for Carroll.

Logan Reynolds scored two goals.

Softball

Bellbrook 10, Beavercreek 4

Heidi Pummell had three hits, including a double, and a five-run third inning propelled Bellbrook to the win.

Viera Barrett and Brylee Greene both hit a double, respectively, for Beavercreek.

Madison Plains 13, Cedarville 4

Cedarville pulled within one run after four innings but couldn’t keep MP away from home plate afterward.

Allie Ankeney had two hits, including a double. Chloe Miller stole two bases.

Southeastern 6, Greeneview 3

Mya Simpson went 3-for-4 and had a leadoff triple to set up a two-run first inning.

Ryan Zink also had a pair of hits.
