CS2 remains the most popular game on Steam, but how high has it gone?

Counter-Strike has long been one of the most popular multiplayer games on PC through Steam. Millions of players hit the servers every day thanks to the game’s various game modes, specifically Premier and Competitive. It’s popularity has only grown with the release of CS2, and it’s player count has since broken records.

Here’s a breakdown of how many people are playing CS2 right now!

What is the current CS2 player count?

According to Steam and third-party tracker SteamDB, CS2 averages over 1.6 million unique players a day. In-game numbers fluctuate depending on the time of day. During Europe and North America’s downtime, the average drops to around 650,000.

Still, even at downtime where the count is well under half of it’s daily peak, nearly three times as many are playing CS2 than any other game on Steam. PUBG and Dota 2 normally cap out around 750,000 per day. New, popular games on Steam can reach as high as one million, but CS2 remains king.

CS2’s peak came in May 2023 with 1,818,773 concurrent players; at the time, this was the highest the game had reached since CS:GO’s peak in 2020. CS2’s release in 2023 saw numbers rise, and since then, more players have joined the community.

The concurrent count for CS2 continues to grow: 2024’s Shanghai Major saw figures reach 1.7 million — just shy of the record.

We’ll be keeping this piece updated monthly. Here’s CS2’s peak concurrent count for the past 12 months:
