Cold Spring School, an Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) member, is again making waves in the robotics world by sending five teams to the VEX World Robotics Tournament May 6-14 in Dallas, Texas.
The school’s teams qualified to compete in the world championships after a stellar performance at the Indiana State VEX Robotics Tournament on March 22.
According to Cody Stipes, Cold Spring School’s chief operating officer, all seven teams qualified for the state competition, making Cold Spring’s robotics program a dominant force.

He also noted that out of 30 teams in Indiana advancing to the World Championship, five are from Cold Spring—more than any other school or program in the state.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, teamwork, and innovation,” Stipes said. “Their success showcases Cold Spring’s commitment to STEM excellence, and we can’t wait to see them compete on the world stage in May. Congratulations to our talented robotics teams, and a huge thank you to our dedicated coaches, David and Gen Petty, for their leadership and support.”
Cold Spring’s winning teams:
- Team B won the Excellence Award (Middle School) and finished with the fourth-best alliance score in the Middle School Teamwork Championship. The Excellence Award is the highest honor in VEX Robotics, recognizing all-around excellence in design, programming, and teamwork.
- Team A took home the Amaze Award (Middle School), recognizing their well-rounded, high-performing robot with outstanding mechanical design and programming.
- Team F finished with the fourth-best alliance score in the Elementary Teamwork Championship, earning their ticket to the world championship.
- Team G won the Amaze Award and secured the third-best alliance score in the Elementary Teamwork Championship, also qualifying for Dallas.
- Team C qualified for Worlds based on their outstanding skill score.
