CONCORD, CA (Apr. 19, 2025) — Clayton Valley Charter High School (CVCHS) will host its first annual CVCHS Scholastic eSports Invitational on Saturday, May 24, bringing together student competitors, educators, and industry professionals from across California for a full day of competition, career exploration, and collaboration.

The event will feature live competitive play in popular titles such as League of Legends, Valorant, Marvel Rivals, Splatoon, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Chess, as high school teams go head-to-head in front of a live audience. In addition to the tournament action, attendees can participate in professional development seminars designed to help schools launch or expand their own eSports programs and learn about the growing career pathway pipeline in the K-14 eSports industry.

eSports, or competitive video gaming, is a rapidly growing field that combines athleticism, strategy, teamwork, and technology. It has gained traction in high schools and colleges nationwide, with leagues like the CIF and NCIS now offering formal competition and scholarship opportunities. For students, it opens doors to collegiate teams, professional contracts, and a range of careers in game design, broadcasting, event management, and tech development.

Organizers say the CVCHS Invitational aims to connect esports enthusiasts, foster collaboration between schools, and grow awareness of how esports can benefit students both in and out of the classroom.

“This event is more than just competition,” said event organizers. “It’s about building a community, highlighting career pathways, and giving students opportunities they might not have otherwise considered.”

The public is invited to attend and explore this exciting intersection of education, technology, and entertainment.
