THE HILL | The Florida A&M Rattlers scored four runs in the opening frame and never looked back, as they topped the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 10-2 on Friday afternoon.

With runners on first and second FAMU’s Jamison Townsend singled to left field, allowing Ciara Maple to score. After another Rattler scored from an error, Amari Brown homered, bringing Townsend around in the process. The next three batters grounded out, but the visitors went to the bottom of the first inning with a four-point lead.

The Bulldogs could not get anything going, only recording one hit and leaving the bases loaded as the teams entered the second frame. The Rattlers followed suit, with two batters grounding out. One Rattler walked but was called out after she was caught stealing second base.  The Bulldogs struck out in consecutive at-bats, taking the teams to the third inning.

The visitors added two more runs in the third stanza from a triple and a single. The Maroon and White added its only points at the bottom of the frame. With second and third base covered, Kaidence Swoopes reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Dakota Daniel. Swoopes was caught stealing, but Ariana Montiel stole home in the process, adding another tally in the Bulldog column. The contest went scoreless in the fourth, but Florida A&M picked up another pair after a single and double scored Townsend and Brianna Duggins. At the top of the sixth, FAMU added two more to solidify their 10-2 victory, adding 10 runs on 10 hits with no errors. The Bulldogs saw two runs on six hits with three errors.

UP NEXT  

The Bulldogs and Rattlers take to the pitch for a weekend doubleheader. The first contest is set for Noon, with the second game to commence shortly thereafter. Fans can attend for free and park in either the Bulldog Softball Field lot or at the AAMU Event Center.
