BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team fell behind early and could not mount a comeback in falling to UAB, 15-3, in seven innings on Tuesday at Young Memorial Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
After a scoreless first inning, UAB exploded for nine runs on three hits and took advantage of one Bulldog error in jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the second. 
 
Back came the Bulldogs in the top half of the third, loading the bases with two outs. Brycen Hammonds cleared the bases with a double to center as Alabama A&M closed the gap to 9-3.
 
The Blazers (3-1) responded in the bottom of the frame by scoring two runs without a hit in extending the advantage to 11-3.
 
UAB added to the lead with three runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth for the 15-3 lead.
 
GAME NOTES

  • Alabama A&M (1-3) finished with three runs on eight hits, with one error and left six on base
  • Brycen Hammonds went 1-for-4, plating all three AAMU runs
  • Trey Rutledge, Wilmer Cuevas, KJ Stanfield, Angel Rivera and Dre Amaral each collected one hit
  • Jose Valerio (0-1) started on the bump, going 1.1 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on two hits and walking two in taking the loss
  • Killian McLaughlin, Vincent Latimer, Jordan Nolley and Edgar Rodriguez worked in relief
  • UAB finished with 15 runs on 10 hits and stranded nine on base
  • Logan Braunschweig went 2-for-3, with three runs scored and two RBI
  • Jax Yoxtheimer was 2-for-3, with two RBI and a pair of runs scored
  • Braxton Shelton surrendered three runs on five hits, walked two and fanned two in 4.0 innings.
  • Ryan Olson, Justin Hicks and Tyler Haines saw action out of the bullpen

 
UP NEXT  

Alabama A&M returns to action at the 2025 Andre Dawson Classic this weekend in Vero Beach, Fla. The Bulldogs open play at 8 a.m. (central time) against Prairie View A&M on Friday, followed by an 8 a.m. (central) contest on Saturday versus Grambling State. AAMU concludes the weekend at 2 p.m. (central) on Sunday against Florida A&M.
