AI learns to drive Mario Kart game to improve robotic safety

University of Maryland professor Mumu Xu and her students trained an artificial intelligence model to play the 1992 Nintendo hit Mario Kart as a way to study how self-driving cars and other robots can be taught to make safe, reliable decisions in changing environments.
